Local Food Outreach with Focus on Underserved Producers

Community Partnerships works to support the local food network in many ways including funding a Community Farm initiative with The Havens in Mifflin (Junata County) in partnership with several groups led by Heart and Soil and a number of dedicated volunteers. The Havens Community Farm aims to grow natural and wholesome, local produce filling systemic gaps that cause food insecurity and to foster community connection around empowerment of the Hispanic community, regenerative farming and mutual aid.

The project seeks to fill gaps in accessibility to farmable land, tools and the other resources necessary for growing food while fostering community and culture while striving to grow a range of culturally relevant and inspiring foods. This first year we aim to establish a thriving Community Farm that produces an abundance of healthy fruits and veggies for the people that work the land and for food donations to the Welcome Center in Mifflintown as well as setting a strong foundation for the farm to remain in operation and in service to the community for many years to come.

This project is made possible through the work of our partners at The Havens Community Farm, Heart and Soil and the National Association of RC&D Councils.
